The Single Girls Guide to Celebrating V-Day

If there were ever a day that made anyone more aware of their relationship status; it’s indeed February 14th. For some singles, it can seem as if the gods created Valentine’s Day as some cruel and insensitive joke aimed directly at them while even the most happy and confident singles may cringe with annoyance of the coming day. Being single is not a negative thing and doesn’t give you the excuse to wallow in self-pity so use Valentine’s as the day to celebrate the one person you SHOULD love the most; yourself! Go out and enjoy the beauty that is your independence!
- Pamper Yourself at the Spa

What’s better than an overattentive staff and little R&R at one of your favorite spa’s. If there’s ever a time to splurge, let it out on yourself with a massage, a mani/pedi, wrap or bath. I’m sure you’ll leave the place feeling indulged and forgetting what day it is after all.
- Gather Up Some Single Friends for a Night out on the Town
Celebrate the day with your friends; trust you aren’t the only single in town. You actually may be surprised at the number of people celebrating the same independence you are. Run the streets, hit up a couple bars and parties and simply have a good time. Who knows, you may end the night with the Valentine’s “gift” without even having to shell out on overpriced chocolates and flowers.
- Host A Party

Everyone is looking for a house party; especially in the “recession”. Spread the word to friends via text, email, facebook, etc that you’re throwing a singles bash and guaranteed every girl within a 25 mile radius is lining up at your door. One piece of advice; ban the couples - they’ll just take up space.
- Buy Yourself Something Nice
You’ve been eying those new pair of shoes for a while now; go ahead - you deserve it. Use the day as a great excuse for some retail therapy.
- Spend the Day with Family or a Close Friend
The purpose of Valentine’s Day is to stop and recognize the people around us. Most times, we’re moving so fast that we forget to tell the people closest to us that we love them. Give your family and friends a call to tell them you love them or spend the day together without the expectation of anything but good company.
My favorite flick is, Coming to America - I can recite it backwards with each characters accent perfectly and I thoroughly enjoy the nights I can sit in and be entertained with my favorite pastimes. If you don’t cook, order in, buy yourself some chocolates and candies and have a good time.
- Do Whatever the F*^k You Want
That’s what it all comes down to. While your other friends are stressing over what present to get their partners or complaining about feeling obligated, the beauty of being single is that you don’t HAVE to do anything at all.
Celebrate it, embrace it and enjoy your day!
