Welcome to the wonderful world of Health & Wellness! Why devote an entire issue on this topic? The answer is quite simple.

Our world revolves around it.

We’re in the pursuit of happiness and quest for balance in every dimension our lives; from the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional. Coming from a novice point-of-view on the subject, I thought by working out, eating healthy, prayer and meditation, that I was doing everything needed to create a physically and emotionally healthy Kris but I soon discovered that my health and wellness not only involved taking care of myself but also taking care the environment in which I’m a member.  Our seven dimensions of wellness include social, emotional, spiritual, environmental, occupational, intellectual and physical wellness and one no more important than the other as a catalyst in improving your quality of life. In this issue, you’ll find articles from our health and fitness experts on improving your physical and emotional well-being, an interview with one of our favorite entrepreneurs whose work has the uncanny ability to connect us on a social, even spiritual level. In the meantime, take a look at the definitions on the 7 dimensions of wellness and email me some ways you actively engage in these dimensions of wellness.

  • 1. Social Wellness is the ability to interact with people around you by using good communication skills, maintaining meaningful relationships, respecting yourself and others and creating a support system of friends and family.
  • 2. Emotional Wellness is the ability to understand ourselves and cope with the challenges life can bring. The ability to acknowledge and share feelings of anger, fear, sadness or stress; hope, love joy and happiness in a productive manner.
  • 3. Spiritual Wellness is the ability to establish peace and harmony in our lives. The ability to develop congruency between values and actions and to realize a common purpose that binds creation together. The path to spiritual wellness may involve meditation, prayer, affirmations but having compassion, the capacity to love and forgive, clearly practice your beliefs and morals define your spirituality.
  • 4. Environmental Wellness involves a number of different aspects of personal and social responsibility. It’s the ability to recognize our own responsibility for the quality of the air, water and land that surrounds us and make a positive impact on the quality of our environment.
  • 5. Occupational Wellness is the ability to achieve balance between work and leisure time, addressing workplace stress and building relationships with co-workers. It focuses on our search for a calling and involves exploring various career options and finding where you fit.
  • 6. Intellectual Wellness is the ability to open our minds to new ideas and experiences that can be applied to personal decision, group interaction and community betterment. The desire to learn new concepts, improve skills and seek challenges in pursuit of lifelong learning contributes to our intellectual wellness.
  • 7. Physical Wellness involves necessary steps to keep yourself in top physical condition through a combination of healthy eating habits and exercise/physical activity. The essential components of physical wellness include building muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular strength and flexibility.
